SHIT...So Happy It's Thursday! That's something I came up with when I was in eighth grade maybe. It was sometime during those middle school days. If I had to rate my creativity back then on a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being amazingly awesome. I rate it a nice 24. Fo sho. I mean I'm so ridiculously creative that I got my college degree in engineering. Come on people.
Anyways, remember a couple of months back when I discovered this guy on YouTube and then spur of the moment bought his cd? Still worth it. I thought I'd leave you with a little song of his called "Sing to You" because it makes me feel all good inside, and I think you will, too!
Oh...video numero dos is the actual song. The video below is just a little pre-song bonus footage. FYI.
Umm...I can now say that I actually enjoyed a Beyonce song. Strange. Not sure how I feel about this.
SHIT! Have a great Thursday! (HAGT?...just doesn't work)
Showtime Does It Again
I have had a wonderful relationship with Showtime and its many series over the last few years. Our relationship started with a little show called Weeds. Weeds follows the usual storyline. You know...the one where a suburban wife starts selling drugs for a living after her husband drops dead during a nice jog.
I guess that's what I really like about Showtime. They come up with these completely off the wall storylines that could be possible. Hey. You never know.
Some of my other favorites are...
I've found the show extremely entertaining. Everytime Tara gets slightly stressed she switches to another personality which always seems right for the predicament that she's in. Oh, did I mention the series was created by Spielberg? That's right.
Some of my other favorites are...
Dexter
A serial killer who works for Miami PD and kills people that have
done majorly bad things to justify his kills, or for my fellow viewers, he follows "the code".
The Tudors
Well we all know that's drama waiting to happen. I mean we all know the Henry VIII song now, don't we?
Secret Diary of a Call Girl
This one in particular is a bit risque. It's based on a book written anonymously by call girl in London, and I am all for the "based on a true story" line.
Showtime has successfully done it again though if you ask me with its new show United States of Tara. It stars Toni Collette (just fab) as a mom with multiple personality disorder. Right now only three "alters" have surfaced which looking at the promo posters that's all there's going to be. There is T - the rebellious teen who gets along great with her daughter, Alice - the epitome of a 1950s homemaker, and Buck - I think I might have seen him at a bowling alley down South a few times.

AND for all of you Sex and the City (I honestly just had to google that because I didn't know if it was "and" or "in"...I had "in". Fail.) fans, which I obviously am not. Don't hate it. Just didn't get into it. This series has John Corbett, who I loved the first time I saw him on My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
So if you are looking for a new show to add to your list this year, I highly recommend this one.

Seriously?
I wrote this the other day when the video was fresh on my mind. I haven't watched the video again, I don't care to watch the video again, and I have already put this out of mind. That's how I operate.
Also, I'm not a Jay-Z or Young Jeezy fan. I couldn't even tell you a song that the latter sings. Therefore, I did not lose any respect for these fellows because they didn't have any from me to start with. Just giving a fair warning to any fans because if I was a fan, they would have lost my respect (aka my fandom/money). With that said, here's my post...
I saw this video for the first time this morning while getting ready for work. I'm not going to lie. This video bothered me a bit.
There's a whole song to this respect. All I can say is so much for the election of Obama as the first black president bringing about a post-racial America.
My question for them is couldn't they have just stayed positive about Obama? I mean it was his night...not Bush's.
Now I know that this is only one video, and I am sure that similar racial slurs have been thrown on the opposite end of the playing field. But these are rappers that are internationally known and role models for many young Americans. Did I mention that Jay-Z was VIP at the inauguration? Yep.
On another note, a lot of this video was edited for TV due to the multiple swear words (love saying that). I happened to see an old commercial last night that Jay-Z/YJ could have taken some advice from. Hint: "There's no need to swear."
Love. It.

In Honor of Inauguration Day
Inauguration day is always a very important day for me. Whether it be a presidential candidate I supported or not, it reminds me of the fact that I am an American, and I was given the chance to select the next leader of our nation. The majority of the world cannot say this. Not only is the fact that I have the right to vote amazing, but the story behind it is as well.
For those of you who don't know, I am quite the history buff. I know what you're thinking...history and engineering? Really? Well, yes. Really. I have this thing I do where every trait that I have I determine which parent I get that particular trait from...whether it be personality, physical, etc. This tends to get on my mom's last nerve, but that sure hasn't stopped me from doing it. My love of history...definitely my dad. If you left my dad and me alone, we would probably sit in front of the tube and watch the history channel all day long.
One of my main interests in history is leadership which obviously includes the "highest political official in the United States by influence and recognition." You guessed it. The President of the United States of America. Everyone has there favorites as far as presidents go. Ask any third grader in the nation, and they'd probably say George Washington. Lincoln and FDR are atop the list of favorites as well. For me, I'm a big fan of Jefferson, and John Adams is making quite a run thanks to HBO's miniseries on him. I also like Teddy Roosevelt. My favorite of all time though...Reagan. Hands down.
I'm not going to dive into any detail about President Reagan. I know that if you want to read about him you can do so yourself on the world wide web. I will leave you with a couple of videos on Reagan. One being strictly funny/witty things he said. So enjoy your short president lesson for the day!

A Bit Much for Me
My week in a nutshell...
1. Saw real live dead bodies (huh?)
2. Accepted a two month job in Mexico
3. Retracted my acceptance of a two month job in Mexico
4. Got tickets to see one of the greatest athletes of all times (in Birmingham...really?)
I took the weekend to myself after this week. It was a bit much for my mind to process not to mention that the boss was in town, and I had my first end of the year review.
I went to ATL last weekend for the broseph's bday, and we went to Bodies...The Exhibition which for those of you who don't know is "a phenomenal look at the phenomenon we call the human body." Love the play on words there. It's an exhibition of bodies from people who "gave their lives to science," and I quote that because apparently there's a huge controversy on whether or not the people actually did. Something to do with Chinese prisons and execution.
Bodies starts with the skeletal system, then adds muscles, the nervous system, etc. After getting over the fact that I was looking at the dead body of a person who was alive not too long ago (this took me about two rooms), I thoroughly enjoyed it. They had rooms dedicated to different systems of the body such as the reproductive system. They showed what organs with cancer and brain hemorrhaging looked like. It sounds gross, but I learned a lot. I could have probably spent all day in there. Lets just say I've counted it as my substitute for Anatomy 101 (since I never took it).
Oh and I got to touch a liver at the end. That's right. And then we went to lunch. Ha!
James Taylor sings a pretty nice song about Mexico, and that was all I could think after being asked to help out with a project in Mexico...for two months. I said yes within an hour thinking that this was a once in a lifetime shot, and then I realized I didn't know anything about where I was going to be or what I was going to be doing or who I was going to be with. This would normally be exciting for me, but I came up with a few reasons that changed my mind.
Thank God this week is over.

- Travel advisory for Mexico went up after a US ambassador was killed
- Fox News article about Mexico collapsing due to drug cartels
- Young American female in sketch foreign country
- Cannot speak Spanish and would only have a month to learn
- Noone to watch after mi casa while gone
- Remember the movie Man on Fire? Well it's not just kids that are kidnapped all of the time in Mexico.
- Pretty big deal in Tennessee that I could co-lead
Thank God this week is over.
Mustache Thursday, Lonnie's, and S.N.O.W.
I wrote this a couple of months ago so in honor of Thursday...
If I could describe Mustache Thursday in one word it would be...the best time of your life. Sorry. I just can't describe it in one word. Yes, maybe that is a little overboard but for the fortunate few who have had the opportunity to experience Mustache Thursday, I think they will agree with me.
The History of Mustache Thursday:
A couple of my friends were pubcrawling it a few months ago, and they came across this group of friends (or so I'm assuming) that had either drawn mustaches on their faces or their fingers and randomly held them up to their faces. So that's it. History in one sentence...take that Encyclopedia Britannica (or Wikipedia for those who are "up with the times").
We decided to spread the Murstache lurve so we now do a Mustache Thursday as much as possible. We haven't yet gone so far as to do it on a day other than a Thursday. I mean we try to be rebellious but some things are just too hard you know?
Last night was extra special though because one member of the group not to name any names or anything (cough Sherica) has decided to ungrace us with her presence. She's returning to her old stomping grounds...the city that never sleeps. And my props to her because there is no way in h-e-double hockeys that I could survive there. I've decided that LA, NYC, and Seattle are the three places I could never make it. Anyways. Off topic.
So we met up at Sam's, our fave Nashvegan bar and grill with the most amazing turkey sandwich if might add. We mustached it up there and headed towards downtown Nash for some karaoke at Lonnie's (go there when in Nash). Subliminal message 101. Which by the way we totally stepped it up a notch with the staches. Normally we just draw on our fingers with a permanent marker (washable just won't do), but last night one of the Murstachers brought some stick on, hard core Mario aka Italian staches. And it was awesome.
So we're riding to the karaoke and what else did we see but SNOW. That's right. This girl is in the single digits as far as snow sighting goes and of course I was with a former (and soon to be) New Yorker and former Chicagoan. So I was about 10,000 times more excited them. After I screamed "picture! take a picture!" for about 5 minutes the flurries had ended. But no worries. I have faith that I will see more snow as the winter progresses...exciting. (Update: I have seen more snow!)
Karaoke in Nashville is totally different than anywhere else. Everyone (except for us) was an aspiring country musician. So at the end of the night when Williford's setlist consisted of Creep (TLC) and Baby Got Back, I was super impressed. I unfortunately didn't make it on stage. I just wasn't sure how everyone would welcome Carole amongst the Judds, Garth, and the other usuals. There's always next time, right?
Here are some pictures so you can somewhat grasp the idea of Mustache Thursday. It's great, and I would highly advise any possible visitors to come up a night early for a weekend visit just to enjoy this wonderful activity.

Big Hollywood
After I had accomplished absolutely nothing on my first day back at work since pre-Christmas -- actually I take that back, I did make a mean playlist for my 5k training -- SO after I had tackled the huge feat of creating a playlist, I decided to take a gander at the news. This is normally a daily if not multiple times per day activity for me, but since I was a bit rusty today I had completely forgotten about it.
I hit up my fave Fox News for the latest headlines and happened to come across one headline I was extremely interested in...Conservatives Coming Out of the Closet in Hollywood. It wasn't the "out of the closet" part that shocked me the most though. Conservatives? You mean more than one? In Hollywood? Wowsers. I took a gander at the article, and it had a short list of conservative stars. I knew that ol' Kelsey Grammer would make the list, but I was totally thrown by one name for sure. Stephen Baldwin. Emphasis on Baldwin. I wonder what kind of brotherly love he receives from the Baldwin clan. Slim to none?
The article opens up with the introduction of a new site "Big Hollywood" and its debut date (which happens to be tomorrow). The article says it "will be a place where center, right and libertarian-leaning celebrities and industry-insiders can weigh in on Hollywood politics, offer film, television and movie reviews, and have an open forum for political discussion."
POTENTIAL BLOGGING FIGHT ALERT: Kelsey Grammer vs. Sean Penn. Stephen Baldwin vs. Alec Baldwin. Or even better just for the sheer fact that poor Susie would get her "derrière" kicked...Patricia Heaton vs. Susan Sarandon.
I am not going to dive into my political views on this blog probably ever. But this just got me really excited. I hope it lives up to the hype (that I am giving it). I tend to do that. So if you are interested then check out Big Hollywood. If you're not, then don't. Whatever you do though do one other thing for me...have a great day! Ciao for now!

It's Richard Time
Richard Simmons. One of the few names that makes me laugh just at the mention of it. Will Ferrell of course being another. However, I have somewhat of bond with Richard. No I haven't done any of his "sweating" aerobicizing, but I did dress up as him for Halloween one year (chest hair and all). It was a really good night for me.
For those of you who don't watch Whose Line Is It Anyway?...you should. It's a show that's different from any other on mainstream tv due to the fact that's it's strictly improv comedy. I thoroughly enjoy the show by itself, but when they have guest appearances it somehow makes the show even better. The best guest appearance ever. You guessed it...Richard Simmons (ha ha).
I have never seen the cast laugh so hard.

New Year's Resolutions
I typically never take part in this. I mean every year if my fam is all together we will go around and give a toast and a resolution (while sipping on the one and only sparkling grape juice if I might add). I personally have never been too big on the resolutions part of it though. I mean let's be honest the resolutions are typically lose weight, get in touch with old friends, make new friends, blah blah blah.
That is why this year I have taken a different approach to the whole resolution jazz. I have made a list of resolutions that are very specific, and these are my top three:
1. Read the Bible (all in one year)
2. Run a 5k
3. Knit a scarf
How's that for random? They are all something I have never done so just completing them would be a huge accomplishment. The problem with me is I'm really good at the start (almost too good) as you can see I did with this blog, and then I slowly begin to fade away. With my quick start, here's what I've got so far for the three.
1. I got a chronological bible from the sis and fam for Christmas so I'm super pumped. Being the history lover that I am I really like for events to fall in chronological order so this is going to be a super help.
2. I have a couch to 5k plan ready to go. I have a podcast and music ready for arrangement while I run. I have two running buddies. I have narrowed down to a couple of 5ks so now I need to pick and pay so I must run.
3. I know how to knit the basics thanks to my patient mother and YouTube. Apparently knitting is suppose to be soothing so I picked it up over Thanksgiving. However for me being the beginner I am, it is frustrating and definitely tests my patience. I have already started my scarf five times and pulled it out because I messed up. Completing at least one scarf would in a way be a huge feat for me.
So there you have it, and you better hold me to it. As small of deal as this may seem to some I think it's going to be a challenge for me.
Happy 2009!
